Rector Election

This week is the busiest week in The State University of Papua (UNIPA). All students, lecturers, researcher, and staff everyday gathered together to discuss who will be the next rector for this university for period 2007-2011. Most of the questions that frequently came up were "Who are the candidates?", "Are they qualified?", "Can they put their heart, mind, and effort for the development of this university, especially for the people of Papua?".

Couple days before the election, the students gathered with current rector and senate members to discuss about the regulation. Most of the students were unsatisfied with the chosen candidates. They said there was no qualified figure from the candidates and they want to proposed their own candidate, who by rule can't be a candidate because the person didn't fulfill one of the requirements. Therefore, it's impossible. Why should we waste time for a candidates that surely will be rejected to become rector? After several arguments and advices from the rector, they finally realized that their wrong and they accepted it.

Conceptually, each of the candidates has the same vision which is to develop UNIPA to become a qualified higher education institution in Indonesia and in the world. Of course technically, they have their own mission and program. The main problem is not on the concept, but it's on the realization/implementation of the concept.

At the end of the day, the meeting between senate members came to a result which to choose 3 candidates from 5 candidates. These candidates will be sent to the President through Minister of Education. After that, the President will choose one of them to become the Rector of The State University of Papua.

May the best man win.
